Perseverance Theatre Stages SEMINAR, Now thru 3/31

Perseverance-Theatre-to-Stage-SEMINAR-20010101

SEMINAR, by Theresa Rebeck, is the hot, new, razor sharp comedy that's spicing up Perseverance Theatre's 34th season and bringing it into high gear for an exciting spring. Seminar is showing on the Perseverance Theatre Mainstage tonight, March 8-31, 2013.

Tickets are now available through Hearthside Books, the JACC, online at perseverance theatre.org or by calling 907-463-TIXs (8497). There are two Pay-As-You-Can Previews on Sunday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and two Pay-As-You-Can Performances on Sunday, March 10 and Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m.

SEMINAR introduces the audience to four ambitious young writers with hopes for unlocking the secrets of incredible fiction writing with Leonard, an international literary figure. Instead, they find that Leonard makes a sport out of ruthlessly tearing apart their art in the most horrendously hilarious ways imaginable. With each character radiating sexual tension and intellectual superiority, SEMINAR promises to be a battle of wits and sharp enthusiasm. Politeness is a sin. Sex is a weapon. Truth is raw. And it's all hysterical.

Cynthia Croot, of Pennsylvania, directs five dynamic actors who are no strangers to the stage. Enrique Bravo, of Texas, plays Martin; Seminar marks Bravo's ninth production at Perseverance Theatre. Allison Holtkamp, a Juneau local who was a recent audience favorite as Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, plays Izzy. Corin Hughes-Skandijs of West Virginia, previously seen this season in Of Mice and Men, plays Douglas. MerEdith Hinkley Schimdt, of Skagway, makes her Perseverance Theatre debut as Kate, and Bostin Christopher, Artistic Associate at Perseverance and previously on stage earlier this season in a critically-acclaimed performance as Lenny in Of Mice and Men, will play Leonard.

Artistic Director, Art Rotch, designs lights and set. Andy Kline, of KXLL-Excellent Radio, returns to Perseverance Theatre to design sound, and Erin Schultz, of New York City, makes her Perseverance debut as Costume Designer.

Theresa Rebeck is an American Playwright, television writer, and novelist whose work is in print, film, television, and on stage on Broadway and Off-Broadway. An accomplished female writer, she is an Emmy Nominee for her work on NYPD Blue (1996-97), a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for co-writing Omnium Gatherum (2003), and the creator of the current hit series SMASH on NBC. The most popular of her previous works include The Butterfly Collection (2000), Mauritius (Broadway, 2007), and Dead Accounts (Broadway, 2012). SEMINAR is the first Theresa Rebeck play to be produced by Perseverance Theatre. More information about Theresa Rebeck can be found at www.theresarebeck.com or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theresa_Rebeck.

SEMINAR premiered on Broadway at The Golden Theatre in New York City on November 20, 2011. The play closed this past summer, and Perseverance Theatre is one of the first regional theatres to produce SEMINAR in its post Broadway life.

Performance Details: Performances of SEMINAR are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on the last Sunday (March 31). There will be Pay-As-You-Can Previews on Sunday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Pay-As-You-Can Performances on Sunday, March 10 and Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to SEMINAR are now on sale and range from $12-$32. Discounted tickets for groups of ten or more may be purchased by calling 907-463-TIXS (8497). For ticket reservations, call the Perseverance Theatre Box Office at 907-463-TIXS (8497), go online at www.perseverancetheatre.org, or pick them up at either Hearthside Books or the JACC.

Perseverance Theatre was founded in 1979 in Juneau. Thirty years later, we've grown into a leading professional theatre in Alaska, recognized both statewide and nationally for our programming, training and development that's reflective of the Alaskan community, including 65 world premieres of plays by Alaskan and national playwrights. Perseverance Theatre's mission is to create professional theatre by and for Alaskans. We value community engagement, professional rigor, and regional voice. Last year, Perseverance launched the initiative to begin performing a season of plays in Anchorage as a resident company in the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
